This is a fruit with a high resistance to high temperatures.
The fruits, of a large size, are highly appreciated due to their refreshing properties and slightly bitter taste.
There are two main types of grape fruit that can be found in Italy:
The picking up of the first type takes place between November and the end of January. The fruits are big and with a pale yellow thick peel. Generally, they are seedless.
The second type ripens from mid November until April. The fruits are big and they have a pink-yellow thin peel. They are also generally seedless.
The growing of lemons, specially disseminated throughout the coasts, is highly affected by commercial difficulties due to foreign competitiveness.
The plant is characterized by its capacity to blossom and produce fruits several times during the year.
The spring blossom produces the lemons that are picked between October and April (the earlier are known as primofiore). A second blossom falls in July and the fruits -called bianchetti- ripen between January and May.
The third blossom takes place in September and October and the fruits produced -verdelli- are commercially valuable.
