It contains more sugar than the orange, and it is richer in B group vitamins, calcium and phosphor.
Its peel is thin and it can be easily separated from the pulp. There are two main types of oranges: Common or Avana and Tardía de Ciaculli.
The Common type starts ripening in mid November.
The fruits are round, squashed in the bottom and top; their peel is strong orange and the pulp is highly juicy.
It contains a large amount of pips, except for the Avana seedless type.
The Tardía de Ciaculli type (from a town near the city of Palermo) is similar to the Avana type, but the ripening falls late -March and April- and the oranges contain less seeds.
