The red orange contain anthocyanins, which confer to the oranges the characteristic red colour , more or less intense according to the variety, the degree of maturity and the climatic conditions.

The anthocyanin present in blood oranges is cyanidine-3glucoside, which exercises an antioxidant power among the most widely spread anthocyanin.

TAROCCO

This pigmented orange (anthocyanin) is probably a mutation of the Sanguinello type.

Its origin goes back to the XX century, in the territory of Francoforte (Syracuse).

This is the most widely known type of orange in Italy.

The high number of available clones and the different relationships between soils and climates of the different growing environments produce a lengthy ripening season of the Tarocco type, ranging from December to April.

The oranges are big, with a thin peel of yellow-orange color with certain red areas. The pulp is yellow-orange with pink stripes of different intensity.

MORO

It is probably a mutation of types of pigmented oranges and it originated in the territory of Lentini (province of Siracuse) at the beginning of the XX century.

Ripening starts at the beginning of December, however, the fruits may not be picked until February.

The fruits are medium size and mostly distributed in tree crown and in clusters.

The peel is of medium thickness and orange with red-purple tones. It contains a seedless dark red pulp.

SANGUINELLO

These oranges are medium size with a medium thickness peel, of an intense orange color with red and purple shades.

The pulp is highly juicy, of an intense red color with dark red stripe.

The ripening season is late and usually starts in February-March, and once the fruits are ripped, they are immediately picked.
